Avalanche Skills Training (ATS) 1+ and 2 Avalanche Courses

AST (Avalanche Skills Training) avalanche courses are designed by >>Avalanche Canada. The course contents are continuously updated and developed, to guarantee the best training possible. Since several seasons, I teach AST1+ and AST2 course in Norway and Georgia, and courses have received only >>5/5 ratings

AST1+:

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 1+ course (AST 1+) is an entry-level avalanche course for recreational skiers and snowboarders in winter backcountry avalanche terrain. This comprehensive  3 day program combines practical field days with indoor theory and review based on curriculum as established by Avalanche Canada. It includes an additional field day (MAT - Managing Avalanche Terrain) compared to a regular AST1 (note that I do not offer AST1 alone with out MAT). Topics covered include avalanche formation and release, identifying avalanche terrain, trip planning, use of tools and resources like the avalanche forecasts to mitigate your avalanche risk, and companion rescue.

AST2:

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 (AST2) course is designed for the serious and experienced winter backcountry user. This course is based on the AST 1+ level course, but is also suited for those who already have a solid understanding of snow avalanche principles. The course has extensive practical field time in real avalanche terrain. Topics covered includes Avalanche Danger Ratings verification techniques for personal use on a local scale, developing personal, local terrain ratings, route-finding to manage personal risk, and travel techniques in avalanche terrain appropriate to the avalanche conditions. In addition, there is a lot of good skiing happening, and a strong focus is on route finding and managing avalanche terrain.
Max. number of participants for both courses: 5 (to guarantee a good instructor : student ratio)
